A listing with poor photos or, even worse, no photos at all, can cause buyers to disregard the listing from the start.

If your goal is to make your listing stand out in the crowd of listings, check out these tried-and-true secrets to create scroll-stopping real estate photos:

  1. Walk around your home: Before you start snapping pictures, take a tour of your home and look at it from a buyer’s perspective. The best photos will reveal the smallest details, so it’s important to show off your home’s best features while minimizing its flaws.
  2. Pick the best day and time: A bright, sunny day will make your home look vivid and highlight your property’s landscaping. Try to schedule the shoot when the sun is shining in front of the home.
  3. Clean up: Clean your home top to bottom. This is something that can be professionally done or done yourself. In addition, put away heaps of clothes, magazines, framed photos, and any other items that may detract from your curb appeal.
  4. Let in the light: Buyers are looking for homes that are “light and airy.” Wash your windows and leave curtains and blinds open so natural light can flow through in abundance.
  5. Work angles: Angles can make or break a shot. Make to keep your camera at about chest height and shoot straight on. Take into account things such as furniture placement and location of windows and doorways so you portray your home as expansive, light, and inviting.
